I’m guessing that many of you are catching up on emails, blog posts, and other things, so I won’t weigh down your to-do list with a long post today.  Of course, it’s also Cyber Monday, which might be the real reason you don’t want to read a long post!  Did you know that 86% of working consumers will spend time online shopping today?  And that a quarter of those will spend four hours or more online shopping?!? And that last year, US Cyber Monday shoppers spent almost $1.5 billion (and the phenomenon has extended to many other countries as well)?  Be careful, though… 7% of HR Managers report that they have fired someone for holiday shopping while on the job!  cyber-monday-discount(picture source)

If you were paying attention yesterday, you know that I don’t actually enjoy in-store shopping, but I work with retailers in my “real job” and find this stuff absolutely fascinating.  But I realize this is a health and wellness blog and not a retail blog, so let’s get to Motivation Monday! motivation monday

I’ll bet that many of you are feeling a little bit like me if you were fortunate enough to get a few days off for Thanksgiving … it was just long enough to really relax, and to make you dread your Monday work day just a little bit.  So, before you get yourself into a funk, take a second to think about your purpose for today.  I don’t need you to figure out your whole purpose in life (although that would be great!), but I want you to take a second to think about something you can do to make today really worth it – for you or for someone else. exchanging a day of your life for today(picture source) one person living with passion(picture source)

Finding your purpose for today can mean many different things to many different people … maybe you take a big step towards a goal you’ve been wanting to attain.  Maybe you go out of your way to make someone’s day in an unexpected way.  Maybe you do a really awesome job at work today.  Maybe you get all of your required tasks for the day finished early so you can do something you’re passionate about or make a special dinner for your spouse.  Whatever it is, go out and do it with passion, rather than letting the day pass you by!be the architect of your future (picture source)

So tell me in the comments … What is your purpose today?  Will you be Cyber Monday shopping? (I won’t tell!)

Since I’m reading this on Tuesday I’ll tell you what my purpose is today: To eat healthy and drink a lot of water. To be patient and be steady and focused. Breathe. One moment at a time. 🙂

Really? I was actually very surprised! I can’t imagine getting fired because someone saw me shopping online; then again, my work is probably a lot more flexible than some since I am not an hourly employee. I hear you on the over-thinking problem; hope you did OK with it!

Wow! That’s a lot of shopping on Cyber Monday! I am happy to say I haven’t spent any time shopping at work today. Reading blog posts… that’s a different story! 🙂

Haha, you and me both, Jillienne! I call reading blogs my “productivity breaks” – it only takes 5 minutes and gets my mind off of work for a second. At least that’s my story!!

I love this post! Most of my day is over now, but I really like the idea of spending time purposefully. I got one application mailed off today, so I’m feeling really good about it.

My purpose today and this week is to continue being strong and working towards to come back to running. I haven’t mentioned it but even though I have done a few small runs they were HARD and it is hard sometimes not to get frustrated. Another main focus is to really focus on being a support system for my husband who has a crazy big test this week!
